Has your cat ever tried to make himself a bed?
Our male cat is a little over a year old. He plays & sleeps in a nylon tent-like cube. Today, he tried to drag a blanket inside of it with his teeth - it was the funniest thing. I didn't know that cats liked to make beds (like dogs). Anyway, I ended up having to help him get it into the cube and he is enjoying it. =^...^= They really do think and plan - I wonder what they'd say if they could talk!
His "cube" is already on a soft bed, he just wanted the blanket inside the cube.
These are the cubes he loves, we leave one separate which he makes his bed in, and the other two we hook together for play.

I had a cat that would gather up all the stuffed toys (mostly on the small side) we kept for nephews and nieces that would visit and pile them up on one end of the sofa (hardly anyone used it) and then would burrow in and work around till all you could see was her head...many times I'd be looking for her and calling her only to find, after looking closely, that she'd been staring at me all the time I'd been looking. She had a wicked sense of humor. LOL Sure do miss her.

hair tends to be dry after dying it so deep condition your hair afterwards.

How Can I get ready for a trip with my BEAGLE!!?
I have a one year old beagle. We will go on a trip with him this summer to lummi island. He dosnt like cars and so on. How can I make him sleep in a tent!? I need help. How can I train him to be calm in a crate in a car. The trip is 1 hour. Then boat for 30 to 45 mins. Then 30 car. I will need help to keep him calm in the car and also in the tent. I have my own tent for him and I. But the big problem is the car!!!!!

There are actually dog seats that you can put in the front seat. That way he can see you and if he wants look out the window. If he has a favorite toy or some thing be sure to bring it.

Silver Jewellery - Pure White Background?
I need some help photographing highly polished silver jewellery against a pure white background (#ffffff) for use on a website.
I have recently purchased some kit for this:
Small white light tent.
An Olympus e520 DSLR camera
35mm Zuiko macro lens.
2 300w photography lamps with 5000k daylight bulbs.
I would like to get as close to this sort of thing as possible (setting the bar high I know!!) :

So far I'm struggling. I think I have the right sort of kit. But I'm not sure on camera settings and general setup for this kind of job.
Please advise : )
Sorry I forgot to add that I'm not after the reflection effect, I just liked this image as it shows the cufflinks form and shape off perfectly as well as conveying a true silver colour and texture (something so far I have failed at)

Easy with the kit you've got.

Use the same basic setup as this (light from each side): http://www.flickr.com/photos/pchthetwit/4560372491/ but on white ceramic, and white seamless background.

When exposing remember to meter off the white, then expose that as +1.7 EV, this way it will show as white while not burning pixels. You will want to shoot in manual mode really so that exposures are consistent, and also set your white balance to daylight (or if you can set a exact number, 5000K to match your lights).

If you can't get the glass base you can always drop the reflection in photoshop (and in fact I learnt to do this initially with illustrator), and a tutorial can be found here: http://www.photoshop911.com/tutorials/reflections.html

What sort of studio lighting do I need?
I need some to invest in some portable studio equipment. I think I'm gonna go for this light tent:

because it's convenient and would work well for what I want to do aside from run of the mill formal shots. I have no idea about lighting though and would like to keep it as cheep and basic as possible for now.

I don't really know much about flash/continuous lighting either but I think for me continuous would be a lot easier.

So light Tents aren't so good for general people shots? Would something like the two lights I linked to just with a normal backdrop work better?

The light tent is basically for product shots where even, shadowless lighting is required. The lighttent material acts as a diffuser with the lights situated outside. (I use a smaller version)

For "people" shots, you are best with a three light setup as the basic.
This then gives you more control and you can adjust to have more/less shadow, you can highlight the hair (to separate from the background) etc.

You should add a softbox/snoot and a couple of umbrellas to your basic kit and then buy a couple of books on basic portraiture lighting setups.

Once you have more idea of how the positioning of lights affects the shot then you can start practicing more with reflectors, dark boards etc.

If you can get hold of a shop mannequin then they are good for practising on.

Where can I buy a Party Tent?
Does anyone know a retail store, such as Costco or Target, that I might be able to buy a party tent. Something like this: http://www.jumpandparty.net/images/tent.jpg. It doesn't have to be this big though. It just needs to cover a box that will be cooking a pig in case of rain.

It really depends on where you live. There might be some local tent store that might carry what you're looking for. You could try Mossy Oak, Greentop, or Cabela's. The only problem is that they might be a tad more expensive.

Easiest way to turn on battery powered paper lanterns at wedding?
I am getting married in September and we are using a tent for our reception. We are hanging paper lanterns for lighting and I wanted to use battery powered LED lights instead of plug in cords. I was wondering what the easiest way to turn them on after the ceremony is. I assume just standing on a ladder to reach them but I didn't know if there was an easier way. Which type of lighting would you recommend for a 2-3 Man Tent?
I have various types.
A gas lantern
An ordinary battery lantern
And a couple of those LED battery lanterns
The LED are very bright and light to carry as well so was thinking of just using those. The gas gives off a good light though but maybe not too safe in a small tent?
Also, are those wind up radios any good?
I have a 2-3 man dome tent

NO open flames or gas fuel! These are a fire hazard and emit fumes, my dear. Use them in a tent and you could hurt or kill yourself.

What I use on camping trips is LED headlamp. Then my light is always exactly where I need it. You can wear it right up into your sleeping bag, and then last thing before you hunker down for the night is to take it off your head and wear it around your neck, or put it somewhere in the bag with you where you won't roll onto it...like right above your head, in the hood of your mummy bag, so you know exactly where it is!

These are also relatively bright and can light up a whole tent if you clip them somehow to the ceiling of your tent and just let the light shine down. If you don't have any sort of loop or a gear loft up there, and many Tents do have a place to hang stuff you can quite easily make one by very very carefully tacking up some dental floss with some hem stitches...by that I mean you should not see any of your sewing from the opposite side of the fabric (the outside). For this you don't even go through the fabric of the tent, you just catch a thread and come back through on the inside, on a single layer of a seam. Go across to another safe point on the same seam, tie it off, so you have about a 6inch tiny loose running clothesline. It helps if you have a hexagonal or dome tent with six panels sewn together at the top, then you have 6 seams and can make up to 6 of these, crossing in the middle, and then use a really lightweight clip of some sort (paper clip, titanium carabiner, safety pin) to hang a very lightweight LED headlamp from all the strings at once. This way the weight will be even across all the seams instead of pulling from any one of them, and there will be less impact. That is the easiest way I know to explain it, but if you don't get it, don't try to do it.

Under a tarp this is easy you just hang a light from your ridge cord using a clip and some p-cord.
