Is this a good sleeping bag?
I am considering buying the Swiss Gear Lightweight Biker +45 Degrees Rectangular Sleeping Bag. Is it a good bag? It would just be for Summer camping and backpacking. Would anyone recommend it?
FYI It's on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Gear-Lightweight-45-Degrees-Rectangular/dp/B0019X01HY)
I agree with most of the answers above -- Swiss gear is poorly made. And that bag, with its sewn through quilting and no zipper draft baffle, is nothing more than a cheap comforter with a flimsy zipper. You might as well just take a blanket. At over 3 lbs, a blanket might be lighter and warmer. The deal that Beefcake posted a link to on that Kelty bag is outstanding -- you should buy that one if you are serious about sleeping outdoors -- it's only 2 lbs and high quality design. Kelty makes excellent gear and that one for $49 will keep you warm and hold up for a long time. I bought a similar Kelty bag for my brother 20 years ago for bike touring and backpacking and he still uses it all the time.
If you really only want to spend $30 on something rectangular shaped, you would be better off with a Polartec fleece sleeping bag for that temperature range. It would also be more comfortable on humid warmer nights than the cheap nylon bag. I prefer a fleece bag in the summer. They have a lot of choices of fleece bags at http://www.campmor.com and you will get better customer service from them on camping gear.
